Where did S.U.E. come from?
S.U.E. (Sexual Understanding & Education) was created by the SUEDE Society to help address one of the biggest barriers facing young people today: access to accurate, inclusive, and trustworthy sexual health information. While the internet can answer almost any question, it can also expose youth to misinformation, stigma, and content that isn't designed with their wellbeing in mind.
S.U.E. was built to be different. Developed by Canadian sexual health educator Carlie McPhee and capstone Master of Data Science: Computation Linguistics students at UBC, S.U.E. combines evidence-based sexual health education with responsible AI technology to create a safe, accessible learning tool. As a team we have prioritized accuracy, ethical tool data training, and Canadian resources.
Unlike general AI chatbots, S.U.E. doesn't search the internet for answers. Instead, it draws exclusively from a carefully curated library of trusted Canadian sexual health education resources, helping ensure that every response is accurate, age-appropriate, inclusive, and aligned with current best practices. As the technology continues to evolve, S.U.E. will also continue to grow through ongoing evaluation, user feedback, and collaboration with educators, researchers, and young people across Canada.
